Bonsai Stand - Ancient Red Gum 15.3x15.3x26.8cm

This is my first stand made from the NSW Ancient Red Gum wood. It differs in appearance compared to the Victorian Ancient Red Gum in that it is much darker and has different grain. This one is a very rich, glossy, dense black. The Victorian wood has a brilliant figured pattern in the wood and is not quite as dark. They are both more difficult to use compared to the usual woods we use. Small cracks or blemishes in the wood are first filled with black resin and then sanded in to blend with the existing colour. This is often time consuming, but the finished product requires these little things.  Multiple coats of hard oil/varnish have been applied over about 9 days, then super fine sanded. It is signed but only visible close up.
